Established in 1999, the office serves as the point of contact on health-related issues at the federal level for Duke University Health System (DUHS) and state government issues for Duke University and DUHS. The university's health system includes Duke University Hospital, Durham Regional Hospital, Duke Raleigh Hospital, ambulatory surgery centers, primary and specialty care clinics, Duke HomeCare & Hospice, wellness centers and community-based clinical partnerships. It is integrated with the Duke University School of Medicine and the Duke University School of Nursing. Paul A. Vick is associate vice president for government relations and heads the Duke University Health System office. Previously, he was director of the Duke University Office of Government Relations and Community Affairs for nine years. Vick's professional background includes a three-year stint in Washington, D.C., as administrative assistant to U.S. Senator (and former Duke president) Terry Sanford and a four-year term on the Durham City Council.
A 1966 graduate of Duke University, he holds a master's degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
